WinnCares: Acting as a Community Champion
WinnCompanies and its more than 2,700 team members believe we have an obligation to make positive contributions to the community in which we do business.
The pursuit of daily mission strengthens communities by developing and managing multi-family housing, creating stable and safe homes, preserving and re-purposing historic structures, increasing the tax base and generating jobs and economic vitality. At the same time, we express our commitment to and support for the surrounding community through a wide array of charitable, volunteer and service-related activities.
The social impact of our corporate citizenship efforts is embodied in the WinnCares program, which includes philanthropy and charitable contributions, partnerships with community non-profits, and the volunteering performed by our team members at the more than 500 properties we own or manage nationwide.
Staffing homeless shelters and food kitchens; contributing to clothing and school supply drives; making free space available to community non-profits; raising money for local social services and health causes; staffing community beautification projects; serving on the boards of civic organizations – these are just a few of the activities that our team members pursue through WinnCares. In fact, we annually honor employees who exhibit a passionate commitment to “making a difference in the community through acts of good will.”
In addition, WinnCompanies awards annual WinningEdge Scholarships Awards to residents of properties it manages to demonstrate our ongoing support for individuals pursuing their education goals. WinningEdge, which provides financial assistance to residents who are high school and GED graduates and who are continuing their education in a college, university, institute or trade or professional school setting, has awarded $166,000 in scholarships as a down payment on the bright futures of our residents.
WinnCompanies also has been a longtime supporter of National Night Out, the annual event to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. In 2015, residents and staff at WinnResidential properties in 17 states and Washington, D.C., joined with their neighbors in National Night Out activities at 75 Winn-managed multifamily communities from California to Florida to Massachusetts, as well as 12 massive military communities that the company manages in a joint venture with Lend Lease.
To celebrate our 40th Anniversary, WinnCompanies created an annual scholarship program to benefit high school and GED graduates.
Winn In Action
At the annual WinnersCircle celebration in March, WinnCompanies team members from around the country worked together to build 40 bicycles for children from the Boys & Girls Club in Fall River, MA.
Needless to say, the children were incredibly excited to receive their new bikes. Equally as important, everyone involved felt great to work in teams to assemble them.
Corporate Social Responsibility
WinnCompanies 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility report is the
first time in the company’s 45-year history that it has tried to
capture the cohesive story of its civic-minded activities – the
good works that are a choice we make, not a requirement of our
business. WinnCompanies is a family-owned, for-profit company, but,
in many ways, we also hold ourselves as a mission-driven
organization. From small groups of employees volunteering in their
local markets, to our annual scholarship program for residents, to
the companywide efforts on behalf of veterans and the homeless –
our WinnCares spirit plays out in many ways.
We hope that you enjoy our 2016 CSR Report, available here.
