WinnCompanies Awards Academic Scholarships to 48 Residents of Managed Properties in 16 States

Scholarship Program Expanded for the First Time to Support Children of WinnCompanies’ Employees

Boston, MA (July 9, 2018) - WinnCompanies, an award-winning manager of high impact affordable, mixed-income and market rate housing communities, today announced the 2018 recipients of its WinningEdge Scholarship Program, given annually to support residents of properties managed by WinnResidential who are committed to pursuing their educational goals.

This year, 48 residents of WinnResidential properties in 15 states and the District of Columbia received awards as part of the scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to residents who have earned a high school diploma or GED, and aspire to continue their education at a college, university, or professional trade school.

In addition, for the first time this year, WinnCompanies expanded the WinningEdge initiative to deliver awards to the children of its employees. Ten children of the company’s team members received scholarship support.

“The WinningEdge Scholarship Program is one way we reaffirm our commitment to improving the communities and the lives of the people we serve,” said Gilbert Winn, CEO of WinnCompanies. “Since launching this effort in 2012, we have awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to more than 300 residents of communities owned and operated by WinnResidential. We’re pleased to make this down payment on the bright futures of our residents.

“We are also excited this year to extend our scholarship program to the sons and daughters of our employees. Ten employee families will receive aid this year and we hope significantly expand the number of recipients in the years to come,” Winn added.

For the resident scholarship program, 25 of the WinningEdge Scholars live in communities managed by WinnResidential in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The remaining 23 scholars are residents of military communities managed by WinnResidential Military Housing Services, a joint-venture of WinnCompanies and Lendlease. They hail from Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.

Most awards were for $1,000. All go directly to schools to help defray educational costs. The WinningEdge Scholarship is part of the company’s WinnCares program, a national commitment to corporate citizenship that supports an improved quality of life in the communities in which WinnCompanies does business.

Team members at WinnCompanies evaluated nearly 150 scholarship applications, including transcripts, essays and personal references, and chose recipients based on their academic performance, character, and proficiency in their chosen field of study.
